BRISBANE: Nicole Lowien, the Gold Coast golfer often noticed more for her striking looks than her rhythmic swing, has turned professional.
The bubbly blonde teenager - hounded by comparisons with Australia's famous golfing calender girl Jan Stephenson - decided to go pro after competing in last weekend's Victorian Open.
The 19-year-old Queenslander will make her professional debut in this weekend's $20,000, 36-hole Bunge Ladies' Classic at Victoria's Buninyong course. She will launch her overseas career in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia before tackling the challenging European circuit and its prestigious tournaments such as the British and European Opens.
